报告地点:人民大街校区惟真楼219会议室

主讲人:Patrick Théato

主办单位:化学学院

报告内容简介:

This presentation highlights recent advances in the design and synthesis of functional polymers through post-polymerization modification (PPM) strategies. Examples include novel poly(ethylene oxide) architectures for solid-state electrolytes and sulfur-based polymers prepared via modified inverse vulcanization, offering improved processability and functionality.

主讲人简介:

Professor Patrick Théato is a renowned expert in polymer science, holding a Full Professorship at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany since 2017. His academic journey commenced at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he earned a doctoral degree in Chemistry in 2001. He has held prestigious visiting professorships at numerous universities worldwide, including institutions in China, Thailand, and Japan. Notably, he held position of a senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield (2011), an Associate Professor at Seoul National University (2009 - 2013), and Associate Professor at University of Hamburg (2011 - 2017).

Professor Théato's research is focused on developing innovative synthetic strategies for crafting functional polymers with precise structures. His expertise lies in post-polymerization modifications, enabling the introduction of diverse functionalities after polymer creation. This work holds significant potential for applications in materials science, biomedical engineering, and nanotechnology. Recent activities are in the area of polymers for energy storage as well as sulfur polymers.

Beyond his research, Professor Théato is an active contributor to the academic community. He currently serves as the Dean of Studies (Chemistry) at KIT and the chair of the Subcommittee on Polymer Terminology within the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Since 2024, he also serves as Associate Editor for the new ACS journal Polymer Science & Technology. His dedication to international collaboration is also evident through his numerous editorial board memberships on prestigious scientific journals.
